The Sparkling Stars Are Gone…

Today i took down the Christmas Tree & all its decorations, took down the window decorations & balcony lights, took down the wreath on the front door & the little bells on the bedroom doors. They are all packed into their boxes, waiting for 365 days to pass before making their appearance again.

After & Before TakeDown
After & Before TakeDown

Now i look at my windows, at my walls, at the doors & they all look so empty, too white, too plain. It made me think about all that craziness that happens just for the sake of making Christmas special – the buying, the rush, the presents, the cards, the decorations, the lights, the food, the parties & so much more…

What is the real reason for doing all these? For us, the reason for the season is Jesus Christ & He is what makes Christmas special, not all the frills.

This led me to thoughts about how we sometimes fill our lives with “decorations” & how it blocks the view out of the window. How we sometimes only see the display of sparkling stars on the window & we miss the beautiful real stars out there in the velvet night sky. Are we sometimes lost in the shimmering lights & the true light in our lives is lost?

i know i am, very many times, caught in the doing & i lost out on the being. Like being a parent; i’m so into doing it right, making sure he has everything, getting him to accomplish that i forget about being a mummy; simply being there for my little guy, just enjoy being his mother, just enjoy him.

What are the true and valuable things in your life? Maybe it is time to take down the decorations & truly look & step into the real world. Sometimes when things are white & plain are when they are clear and sure.

My New Favourite Household Chore…

That’s right – you heard it right – i have a new favourite chore… vacuuming!

That is since my beloved hubby got me a Dyson! It’s my Christmas present – i think (since he said on Christmas Eve that my present would come later & that week he bought me this – thank you beloved husband)

Now you have to know something about me – i love gadgets, especially kitchen & household gadgets; & i love them more if they cut my working time 😀 So having said that, i have had my eye on a Dyson for the longest time… i actually researched a tiny bit… ok… a fair bit about vacuum-cleaners. Obsessive? Maybe… but when you have a family who all have sensitive noses, getting the right vacuum is an important thing. The one problem with the Dyson was its price. We could never afford it before because we had to save or spend on something else more in need. So we always had the average vacuum.

The Dyson

Why do i love the Dyson so much? Because you can actually feel, with your bare feet, how clean the floor is after you have vacuumed! i can literally walk across the floor & tell the difference between places where the vacuum has or has not been. With our old vacuum, i always felt as if i hadn’t done a good enough job cleaning the floor. & the Dyson also cleans my carpets in half the time it took the other one. i’m always the first in the house to see dust/dirt – as a good friend once told me, i have a low tolerance for dirt, meaning i will usually be the one to notice the dirt. So it (the Dyson) really does suck up all that fine micro dust/dirt.

Oooh, another thing – i love how it stows away – we got the Stowaway model. See how the tubing is all wrapped around the body of the vacuum, it is actually made to fit that way. No extra tubes to fit together, just click on the right brush-head & off you go 😀

Off to enjoy time saved from using a great sucker 😉

PS: i have not been paid or received any form of compensation or any other benefits/remuneration from Dyson for writing this post. i simply wanna share my joy in finding a household appliance which truly works. 🙂

First Day of School in 2012…

Tobias' School Bag

…after a 2-week Christmas/New Year break, today was back to the school routine, where we (meaning Mummy) are up at 6am in the morning, getting ready & fixing breakfast, then waking the Little Guy up & getting him fed, teeth brushed & clothed. Then the Little Guy wakes his Daddy with a goodbye kiss before he gets shooed out the door at 7.45am to meet his friends downstairs & they walk to school together.

Mummy’s favourite part of this early morning routine is standing at the bedroom window & watching the Little Guy walk down the street, happily chatting with his friends on their way to school (auf dem Schuleweg, in German). It sooo fills Mummy with pride to see her Little Guy growing up & being independent. While Mummy loves watching this, her heart aches a little knowing that there is no turning back the clock… so she is treasuring moments like this…

PS: this is not to say that there are no hair-pulling-child-discipline moments… there are… but Mummy knows that many many years later, she will likely remember more precious moments such as the above than frustrating moments 😉
