Special In Every Way…

“…special needs kids are just kids.  Just kids that need moms and dads to love them and take care of them.  To treat them like any other kid.  They are no less deserving of a loving family and parents to take care of them than any other child…”

That’s what Amber over at Skyward Journey said when she wrote about special needs adoption.

And it is so true. Every child deserves a loving family and parents who will take care of them, they need people they can depend on to support them, teach them, guide them, help them through life; special needs or not.

Kaleigh needs such a family too.

Can you picture this lovely girl with a beautiful bow in her hair, a pretty little dress, laughing, running at full speed towards mum & dad?

She is an orphan who is special in every way… she has Down Syndrome and just looking at her, i know she has a wonderful personality just waiting to shine. She needs a mummy and daddy who would help her shine, help her show off how special she truly is.

Unfortunately, she lives in a country where her extra chromosome is considered a burden rather than a hidden blessing waiting to be discovered. So what awaits her is life in an adult mental institution for the rest of her life. She could be transferred real soon. She is 4 years old.

But this festive season she has a person she can depend on; her Angel Tree Warrior who is working hard to raise awareness and to raise funds for her adoption grant. See here for more about what her AT warrior has planned.

Would you show Kaleigh a little love by giving towards her adoption grant? It would take anywhere from US$25,000 to US$40,000 or more in paperwork and adoption fees before a family can bring her home. Please go here to donate or click on her name/picture.

Please do also pray for her, for her daily needs to be met and most of all, for her forever family to come for her real soon. Do also share her story so more may know about her and more may help.

20 Hours of Snowfall and…

…and… you get a whole ton of snow… duh! hehhee… 😉

But seriously we did have  20 hours of snowfall, by my own inaccurate calculations. You can go here for more accurate weather forecast/alerts/warnings.

It all started on Friday morning at about 9ish and simply carried on snowing to the wee hours of Saturday morning.

Here’s what it looked like as i was headed to bed at about 12.30am:

Camera 360
Top Left: Our neighbours lost their windows, only slits left. Top Right: where the bush ends are steps which are no longer seen. Bottom: Waist height bushes lost in the snow.

Here’s what it looked like at 8.30am this morning:

Top Left: Neighbour's car almost completely covered and boxed in by the snow. Top Right: Love how the snow covers the trees. Bottom: Bushes almost unseen now.

Husband and his colleagues were stuck at the hotel where they have their annual company Christmas dinner. He just could not drive the car out of the underground parking till the snow was cleared. So they waited till early morning.

Just to show you how much snow has indeed fallen (we estimate that at least 1.5 feet or about 50cm had fallen):

Left: See the caretaker with his snow-blower, standing in mid-thigh high snow. Right: See the amount of snow on top of the big metal trash bins?

i leave you with my favourite image from today – Snow caterpillars just outside our local Migros restaurant 😉

The Birthday Show…

So it was my birthday 5 days ago and God’s gift to me was getting Wesley over that US$1000 mark and i still have people asking if they can donate even though the Giveaway is over. Praise the Lord!

Well, i had planned to celebrate with my family by going to an orchestral performance of songs from Pirates of the Caribbean. We love the movies. Unfortunately, the only tickets left for the date we could make were single seats in different categories. So that was out.

i sobbed to poor Husband who then brilliantly found another show we could go watch. Not a musical performance but a variety/circus type show, with magic and acrobats and comedians. It was the Swiss Christmas show in Zürich.

i only had my handphone with me, so have very poor pictures and have no pictures of the performances as photography was not allowed.

They had built a great big tent on an open ground, near the theatre in Zürich. There was is a coat check at the door (if you don’t mind paying CHF2 per coat). A corridor then leads into a great big foyer, elaborately decorated in white and purple. There was a dining area for the people who paid for the evening Dinner and Show. You could also have food and drinks and of course popcorn there. See pictures of these areas on their website here.

Here we are in our seats before the start of the show:

Camera 360Here’s the stage, not huge but enough, i was very amazed at how the stage can be transformed for all the different acts:

Camera 360All the acts were great but we each have our favourites. Tobias liked the magician’s acts (Peter Marvey), which were big numbers and quite spectacular. Walter liked the Swedish group (Balagans) with the acrobatic see-saw act. i liked the trapeze act (Shulman Group), such precision.

i also like how they weave in a theme (Diamond Illusion) had the comedians (Rolf Schmid, Irene and Roland Hofer) and singer (Evelin Suter) carry that throughout the whole show.

The show runs till 31st December so there maybe time to still catch a show if you are interested. They have family prices for the afternoon matinée which is the one we went to.

*Happy* Thank you my darling husband *muah*
