A New New Car…

Yes, i say a New, New car, it is not a typo. We usually buy second-hand cars because really there is little point in buying a brand-new car when a good condition second-hand one will do. That is what we believe and still do.

So why did we get a brand-new car this time? Because we looked and looked for a second-hand one and found that for just a bit more, we could get a brand-new one. Plus, we are old-school and wanted a fully manual-drive, which apparently is a rare thing these days for a petrol engine car.

We had hoped to be driving our beloved Skoda for a few more years. But it was not meant to be, unfortunately. Earlier this year, there was a software update for the car to better manage the diesel-particle filter and since that update, our poor car had to go to the workshop/garage three times in 6 months! And this last time, the problem was going to cost us quite a bit, if it turned out to be a small thing. However, if it turned out to be a big thing, it would cost us a ton. We won’t have known till the mechanics opened the whole thing up. So we decided to just trade it in and get another car.

So this is our new, new car! Which had to be driven in from Liechtenstein because this car dealership (quite a big one) could only find a manual-drive petrol engine, in the model we wanted over there!

The husband said it was under a cloth cover and he was invited to reveal the car. The dealership also gave us champagne and nuts. Nice, right?

It’s a VW Golf Variant Combi (or Stationwagon to my US friends) in tungsten silver metallic colour. It is even more gadgety than our last car, which i had found a little overwhelming at first. You can set different driving profiles, sync your phone and control the gadgets from your phone, and it can even self-park (just parallel parking, i think).

i have not yet driven it yet. It was only picked up yesterday. But the husband says it is a good drive and quiet too. He likes it.

We hope to be driving this car for many years to come because if and when it comes time to change again, it looks like it will have to be an automatic/Tiptronic because that’s the way car manufacturers are going.

New Ride…

We got ourselves a new car! Well, it’s not a new new car; it’s a new second-hand car. It’s a nice little (maybe not so little) car and we’ve had it for a week now.

Here it is:

It is an Škoda Octavia Combi, about 3 years old.

If you are interested, you can read about the technical specs here.

It is roughly the same size as our old car, even though when i sit in it, i feel like it is bigger. i also feel that it is a heavier car to drive than our previous Ford Focus Combi but it also feels safer, in the sense that it hugs the road more. We were told that is likely because the 4-wheel drive is on always, which regulates itself so it is not always a 100% on 4-wheel drive. This car does a lot of this self-regulating stuff, which rightly should put me at ease but i’m old-school and if the car is doing something on it’s own, without me knowing about it, it just makes me feel weird!

We haven’t quite figured out all the gadgetry in it yet. Still i like the new ride 🙂 What do you think of it?

PS: i would describe the colour as light metallic blue but apparently the official colour is called Satin Grey Metallic 😉
