It has been a rather sad weekend.
First of all, when we left for our summer holiday we knew we would face the possibility of coming home to at least one of our mice passing away. And Patch did pass away while we were gone (i wrote a tiny bit about it here. i remember how excited we were to welcome them to our home.) And this past Thursday we said goodbye to Patches, who like Patch also had a benign tumour. But unexpectedly the very next day, we found Sam had passed away too, in the early morning. Mice only live 2.5 to 3 years and it is about time. So we buried both of them next to each other in our garden.
Will we have mice again? Maybe? Still considering.
The next goodbye i had to say was to my Australian “Grandpa” Bill.
Grandpa Bill and Grandma Joy sort of adopted us, the international students who went to the church near our university in Perth. We went to their home once a month for a potluck lunch and they made it feel like home. It meant a ton to me to have them there, to be welcomed, given great big hugs and just loved by them. i kept in touch with them on and off over the years, always sending Christmas greetings at the very least.
Yesterday, my best friend from uni sent a message saying Grandpa Bill had passed away. He lived a good life and to a ripe old age. i’m sure he has no regrets and is happy to go home to the Lord. But still he will be missed and i am sad not to have been able to see him again in this lifetime.
i wish i had a photo to show you what a wonderfully cheerful man he was. But unfortunately my photos from uni days are all in storage at my mum’s. So all i can say is
