OrphanS of the Month for October… Angel Crafts Shop…

This is my second post highlighting 2 orphans each month.

i am sad to say that there has been no sales in September so we have not been able to contribute to the Reece’s Rainbow Old Child (Other Angels) Grant. But it is ok. i will just keep highlighting the children because they are the ones who need a voice to help find them a forever family.

So Meet Aubrey!

2003-sept-23rd-aubrey-262x468Audrey is 13 years old and she is said to be a kind and polite child who smiles at people every day. She also gets along well with others and is very helpful. She sounds like a very delightful child! However, her disabilities, which are so minor, have prevented her from having a family to call her own. She has anemia, nystagmus and minor delay, all of which are manageable. She just needs a caring family to blossom into a beautiful young lady. She only has 12 months before she ages out of her home country’s adoption system. So she really needs her forever family to step up for her NOW!

Aubrey has a US$3000 grant from her current agency and a US$10,000 grant from Reece’s Rainbow. So this will be very helpful to help her family in their travels to her.

Now Meet McKinley!

mckinley-collageMcKinley is described as shy, kind, helpful, friendly and obedient by the staff at her orphanage. She attends special education classes at the orphanage and her favourite subjects are art and Chinese. She likes to play with dolls and puzzles and likes dogs and kangaroos. Her best friend has been adopted by an Amercian family and she would love to be adopted too. She wishes to grow up to be a mama; isn’t that wonderful? Her special needs are growth, developmental and mental delays, all are easily managed. She has 19 months till she ages out of her country’s adoption system. So she needs a loving family to step forward for her really soon.

McKinley has a US$10,000 grant from Reece’s Rainbow which will be given out when the family receives travel dates.

Please help Aubrey and McKinley to get their stories out there; please share their need for a family with as many as possible. Please do pray for them. And last but not least, you can shop at Angel Crafts Shop to help grow the Reece’s Rainbow grant which is being given to these girls when their families come and get them. 50% of all sales at Angel Crafts Shop will be given to the grant.

Please click on their names or pictures to find out more about each girl.

Thank you very much.

OrphanS of the Month for September… Angel Crafts Shop…

This is my first post to highlight 2 orphans from the Older Child Grant (Other Angels) on Reece’s Rainbow. i was scrolling through the very long list and i keep thinking, “Oh this child. Oh, this one too. What about him? Or her? …” There are just SO MANY children who are in need of loving families… sometimes it seems overwhelming…

BUT i am reminded of the Starfish Story… where the final line says, “But it made a difference to this one…”

So one at a time, i will try my best to shout out for these precious children.

Now let’s meet DEAN!

deanMy boy and i have been praying for DEAN for a couple of years now. We pray each night for a family to come for him. And now he is so near to aging out… he has just another year before he is no longer adoptable under the laws of his home country.

DEAN has lived at the institute since he was 5 years old. He is now 13. He has mental delays but now has self-management skills, including toileting and gets along well with others. He can do simple chores as well. He is shy and i believe would really bloom with the care of a loving family. He has been waiting so very long already. Please see him for the wonderful boy he is and the amazing boy he can become.

Now meet ELIJAH!

elijah-3-200x300Like DEAN, ELIJAH was also left at the institute when he was 5 years old. He is 13 years old now. 8 years ago, when he was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, he was unable to walk. Through his own sheer determination, he can now walk slowly holding onto handrails. He is strong-willed, obedient and sensible. The staff at the institute adores him and hopes he get a wonderful family really soon. i know he would just thrive surrounded by a family he can call his own.

Both DEAN and ELIJAH age out in 2017. ELIJAH has only till June 2017 and DEAN till September 2017. They need families to step forward for them NOW!

Life would be very difficult for them in their home countries as adults with diabilities and there exist still a certain amount of social prejudice, which is not in their favour at all. Their hope of a full life is outside of their country. So an expensive international adoption would be the option.

Please HELP DEAN and ELIJAH by first of all, PRAYING for them. Praying for loving families to see them and step up for them. Second, SHARE their stories so more will know and more can help. Thirdly, you can help by SHOPPING at Angel Crafts Shop, where 50% of all sales goes to the group funds for them.

DEAN and ELIJAH are eligible for a US$10,000 grant from Reece’s Rainbow, under their Older Child (Other Angels) Grant. Please click here for details of that grant.

Please click on DEAN‘s and ELIJAH‘s name and pictures to read more about them.

Thank you very much.

OrphanS of the Month for September and October… Angel Crafts Shop…

So it has been 2 months since i last wrote about my Orphan of the Month. If you remember at the beginning of July, i said that July and August would be the last month we have to contribute to DENNY‘s adoption grant because he will be moved to the Older Boys Grant section on Reece’s Rainbow. See this post.

Well, in July and August, there was, again, no sales; which means i have not been able to contribute to DENNY‘s grant. 😦

Now i have been thinking hard about the direction i should go with Angel Crafts Shop. i do still want to continue with the shop and i do still want to continue contributing to the orphans advocated for via Reece’s Rainbow.

BUT… since running the shop and my other responsibilities take up so much of my time, my actual advocacy efforts (i.e. highlighting individual orphans so they get seen) have taken a backseat. Not what i wanted, really.

Now my heart is for orphans, and especially for special needs orphans, and even more specifically for older (6 years and up) special needs orphans, because they are usually the last to be seen.

So looking at the situation, i have decided that i will not be having an Orphan of the Month anymore! INSTEAD, Angel Crafts Shop will be giving 50% of all sales to the Older Child Grant (10+ years old) at Reece’s Rainbow. AND i will be highlighting 2 orphans every month from that list. So in a way, there will still be orphan of the month, just highlighting 2 of them (now it will be called OrphanS of the Month) and fundraising for the whole group of them.

orphansofthemonth20160904Giving will be split between Older Child Grant for Other Angels (other special needs) and Older Child Grant for Down Syndrome; September, October, January, February and March for Older Child Grant for Other Angels; April, May, June, July, August for Older Child Grant for Down Syndrome. November and December will be reserved for the child i get assigned to for the special Christmas fundraising event, Angel Tree. Please click on the respective grant titles to see details as well as a list of all the children on it.

In this way, i am able to keep on giving and also get back to active advocacy for individuals, and also not be overstressed if i don’t have sales for a couple of months, i know i have 5 months to try and raise some money for each group of older children.

So this month kicks off my fundraising efforts for the Older Child Grant for Other Angels!

i have also been thinking about the direction of Angel Crafts Shop itself; in terms of what crafts i would be making for sale. So stay tuned for news on that front because there will be big sales to sell off current stock and then launching of new stock in the new year!

In the meantime, keep shopping at Angel Crafts Shop so that you can help to grow these children’s adoption grants, which gives the family who steps up for any of them a better chance of reaching them before they age out of the system.

Thank you very much for your continued support!
