24 Hours…

… without child and without husband… so what did i do?

Wait, before i get to that, i didn’t dump them somewhere and go off gallivanting by myself. Husband was away on work trip and son had been invited to a sleepover at his best friend’s. So there i was… all alone for a full 24 hours over Friday evening till Saturday evening!

At first i couldn’t decide what to do; should i go watch a movie? Should i do some shopping? Should i work on the computer? Maybe blog a little? Catch up on emails?

Loving my newly organised craft boxes!
Loving my newly organised craft boxes!

Well, i decided in the end that it would be a good opportunity to catch up on emails (which i had left pretty much unread since November 2012) and i also worked on my craft stuff. After all, if i’m to start a new venture with this craft thing, i had better start making stuff so i have something to showcase and sell, right?

And that’s what i did and it was strangely satisfying to see no new emails in my inbox (at least in two of three inboxes) and it felt wonderful to finish 3 pieces of craft.

Boring! Some might say. i should have gone out and had a ball. But i have mellowed over the years (yes, admitting age here) and i’m starting to realise mellow isn’t half bad…

And who says trying to launch something new isn’t exciting! So stay tuned for news of the craft store! (Fingers crossed and working hard, it may be only a couple of months till launch!)

PS: i did have some crazy fun… stayed up till 4am in the morning watching movies and slept in till almost 11am… omg, unheard of since i can’t even remember when! 😉

We Did…

… there were a couple of posts i had intended to write in the second half of December but life and Christmas took over. They have been given mention in our Christmas letter but here they are combined into one long, picture summary.

On December 15th 2012, Tobias took his Judo yellow belt test and …

… he passed! (no photos of the actual test, parents were not allowed in)

He's being goofy with his brand new yellow belt.

And 3 days after that, Tobias and Mummy had their 1st ever recital. It was the Music School’s piano recital but the piano teacher had a slot to fill so she asked the violin teacher who asked us to play 😀 We had missed the violin class recital because Tobias had his Judo test. Tobias was calm and played like he always did, which is well. But Mummy was a nervous wreck!

Here’s a photo (not the most flattering but the light was low and my point & shoot camera is just crappy in low light conditions):

Here we are playing the 5th (last piece) with the piano teacher accompanying us.

Here are 2 of the 5 videos which Daddy shot:

Oh, this was not mentioned in our Christmas letter but i would like to showcase it too. We had a couple of international students with us over Christmas and enjoyed the joys of ripping away wrapping paper together on Christmas morning.

All proudly displaying their presents ;)

Then we sought out the fresh cool Christmas air after a big Christmas lunch (oops… sorry, no picture of Christmas lunch – i forgot to take a picture, that’s what happens when i do the cooking).

We took a nice walk in the nearby forest.

We also had some good o’ playground fun.

We had played lots of Wii table tennis and thought we should give the real thing a go as well :)

Of course, the see-saw is the classic playground, not to be missed.

And we went up to Zermatt as they wanted to see the famous Matterhorn. We stayed in a nice little hotel at the foot of the mountain for one night and went up the second day and this is what we saw:

We were at the lookout point at Gornergrat, hoping for a view of the Matterhorn.

Yep, pretty much snow in our faces. It was just bad luck or more like bad timing but we had fun sledding!

Thanks for the fun, laughter and great company, Jon & Joyce! Wishing you both all the best as you step into the next chapter of your lives.

That’s it for now.

One Year…

Today (oops! missed 1st jan by 20 minutes – it should have been posted on 1st Jan, not 2nd jan) marks One Year since trippingdifferently.com came into existence and i started blogging here. (You can read about this blog’s previous life here.)

oneyear_20130101

WordPress has done a great job of summarising the year for me:

  • There have been 167 posts in 2012.
  • There have been about 6,600 visitors from 65 countries!

And i would like to give a special thanks to my top 3 commentors for showing me and my blog such love:

Thanks so much ladies for showing my blog and my writing such attention and love. i am very grateful and it has been wonderfully encouraging to read comments from everyone.

i know i have a number of followers as well and i thank you also. (i apologise if i have not gotten back to visiting your blog yet… i will… it will just take me some time…) It is amazing to realise that my words are being read and that people appreciate them enough to click “Follow”. Thank you very much.

i started trippingdifferently.com, hoping to bring more to my blog, more about Switzeland where we live, more about parenting, more about writing, more about photography…

BUT…

it turned out different – isn’t that what life is all about? – i did get to bring more to my blog but it has brought so much more to me; more than i could ever imagine…

i have met wonderful people in blogosphere and have gained so much from their writing. i have learnt and grown and matured as a writer through this whole year.

God has also allowed me to be of good use in His Kingdom plans; He has allowed me to become an advocate and prayer warrior for those without a voice of their own; for special needs orphans. If you have followed from the start, you would realised that from about the third month of its existence, more than 60% of this blog is devoted to special needs orphans. It will continue to be so. (Click here to read more posts about the orphans and how you can help too. Click here to read about some families who are in the adoption process and how you can help.)

However, in 2013, i also hope to be able to bring more of my writing life (perhaps more in the form of shared articles about writing as i am so “young” in my writing life) and more of my photography onto this blog. Of course, our happenings in Switzerland and our travels will also be featured at times.

So here’s to 2013 and wishing you all a fulfilling year!

Thank you once again for reading and loving on my blog. Hope you will continue tripping differently with me.
